Ethanol Fuel Comments

Ethanol Fuel Comments
Government just mandated min 10% ethanol fuel in all gas stations. Wanted to see if any changes will need to made while using the gas mix (e.g. oil filters etc.)
Does this effect higher compression engines and or turbo engines more?

There's no problem. I've run 30% mix before just fine. Mileage will drop a little, but you'll....
get a little more power since ethanol is about 105 octane. So you'll use even MORE gas.

Here's the general scoop
up to about 15%, no changes generally required. Above 15%-20%, re-tuning required (e/g/: "fglex fuel" in GM parlance). however, there are differences:
1. significantly higher octane ( good)
2. significantly lower specific energy load (bad, lower fuel economy)
3. less hygroscopic - wont absorb water, which can lead to collection of water, which is bad (add dry gas)
4. On older cars (not C5s) some issues with seal compatibility, or at least rumours. i recall running 20% gasahol in my 1966 dodge with excellent resulted (cured pinging in the ancient girl)
