factory sport set-up for 4.2
excuse my ignorance, but can someone enlighten me as to what the factory sport set-up means for an '01 4.2 ? I've only been driving one for 3 yrs but frankly have no clue what it means as I read about lowered cars and H&R spring set-ups, etc.

Here's what's included
4.2 quattro
Sport Package: 17 inch 5-spoke forged alloy wheel 255/40 17 with performance tire; Front sport seats; Sport suspension (Body lowered 20mm; spring rate 30% stiffer; shock absorber 40% more compression damping; increased diameter stabilizer bar)

Here's where to find this kind of info

IMO, the suspension aspect was weak, but the package was well worth it for the wheels alone.
Those are some beautiful forged wheels - the best Audi's done in quite a while. The suspension was much too floaty for a "sport" suspension - in fact, IIRC it became the base suspension in '02 and the sport package (was there a sport package in '02?) added even more.
That said, I wish I'd kept my '01 4.2 instead of getting the S6 (which has an almost perfectly sorted suspension for my tastes) and just added a third-party set of coil overs or some such. The 4.2 is a great looking car!

Didn't know the 4.2 Sport Package is different from '01 to '02. Having said that, I'm pretty happy
with mine. It's a decent compromise for a daily driver. Just have to install the H-sport bars when it gets warmer here in Mpls. Can't wait.

Being as how I have an '01 4.2 w/sport, I'm painfully aware of the change in the '02's...
The "sport" package did remain as an option in '02, it's just that it was an upgrade over the same option from a year earlier. As Larry noted (and as has been the topic of multiple threads over the years), what had been the "sport" suspension in '01 became the standard suspension in '02, and a stiffer suspension still was offered with the "sport package."
