Default a few questions about a check engine light stemming from an oxygen sensor

I'm posting the link to the original post on the Cdn. AudiWorld forum. I had not received an answer yet and hoped somebody here might have some thoughts.

The car is actually a southern California 2002 A6 2.7 (tip) that I recently purchased and imported to Calgary, Canada.

https://forums.audiworld.com/canada/msgs/73398.phtml</a

Default lol, $250 for the sensor and $350 to install it, what a joke...

Get a set of Zoldman o2's from VAST Performance and have an indy install it for a fraction of the cost. $195 for BOTH front sensors, shouldnt be more than $150 in labor for an indepdant mechanic to install them.

VAST Performance

Default Oh, and to answer your other questions....

1) No.

2) The sensors you've heard of are the Zoldman sensors I'm recommending for you, and f your dealer, have an indy install them for 1/2 that price.

3) Who cares? Fix the problem instead of avoiding it.

4) Bad o2 sensors can affect your fuel economy because the air-fuel ratio is messed up.

Default keep in mind that those are prolly canadian dollars...

I just had mine replaced under my emissions warranty, make suer that you don't have any emissions warranty left, or if it's covered on your car

Default thanks very much for the info. Couple more questions on your suggestion...

Are you using these Zoldman sensors yourself on your car without any problem (I'm assuming by your signature that you're driving a 2.7 also)?

The analysis indicated it was only my passenger side front sensor that was acting up. Why would I want to buy 2 sensors and incur the extra cost of 2 sensors and the extra labour in replacing them both?

Will they sell me just the 1 sensor I need or do they insist I buy 2? By the time I pay for shipping, duties and taxes to get it to Canada, the 2 fronts will likely cost me a bit more than just buying the 1 sensor I need up here.

Unfortunately, I've checked with a few independant shops that work on Audis here in Calgary and the results weren't impressive.
The ones I talked to offered LESS services than the dealer and charged just as much as the dealer to do things. Don't ask me why anybody would go to them...makes no sense to me.
However, it means I'd likely have to get the dealer to install these Zoldman sensors rather than the factory ones. They were quoting me 3 hours labour to change just the 1 sensor that's acting up, so I'm not enthusiastic about replacing 2 sensors at double the price.
Options up here are not nearly as good as in the US, so that's also why I was wondering if a fuel additive would clean the sensor and prolong my having to do the replacement. Even the dealer suggested not replacing it until the CEL stays on permanently.

Thanks for the info. I know it would be much cheaper and easier to get this work done down in any major US city as opposed to up here.

Default yes I was quoting Canuck bucks, but, Audi dealer said no warranty......

interestingly, they looked in a book and said if it was a 4.2, it would be covered for EXACTLY this thing, but, because it was a 2.7 it was NOT covered beyond the 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty
(my warranty expired May 15/06 and the car is now 5,000 miles over that 50,000 mile limit.

Default well, this dealer said no warranty, but you seem to think I do have warranty? ....

The factory 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty is expired, but are you suggesting that all 2002 A6's have a 8 year, 80,000 mile emissions warranty and that this oxygen sensor is definitely covered under this warranty?

The dealer looked in a book and said it was not covered on this 2.7, but, actually said it would have been covered if it had been a 4.2.
Is he wrong?

The car now has 55,000 miles. Warranty start date was May 15 / 02. Car has never missed a scheduled factory service, is all original paint, etc.

Default wrong gov, he's canadian eh.

i dunno what the canadian government states on the emissions standards, I wish I could give you any pointers beyond what I've already given.

oh wait, it better to get 2 because they're a PITA to replace, while you're in there, might as well do both as the second will most likely not be far behind.
