Default front brakes - need help - please read

I have a 2000 2.7... without replacing the rotors, I put on some Axxis deluxe pads in the front about 3 months ago. They worked good for a while, but then I notied wicked vibration under hard braking. Now the whole car shakes - its almost vilent under braking at higher speeds. Looking at the rotors they do looked glazed....and my pads have ridges in them. Question - can I just put on new rotors, and hope the pads just wear down appropriately?

Default I would replace the pads when you install new rotors. I'd also go with stock parts...

...the A6 ain't no race car

I know, I put these pads on because of low dust.

Default The problem is most likely the pad compound

I had a very similar problem on my A8 with Porterfield pads years ago, it would literally resonant one of the rotors under light to medium braking. Both would squeal like hell. (Gees, just like my track pads.....funny how that works).

After putting stuff on the back of the pads, cleaning up everything and essentially doing the brake job two more times, I went back to OEM compounds......which solved my problem.

New rotors won't do anything for you except make your wallet lighter.

These new pads have a harder compound, that's why they make less dust. If you don't mind squealing brakes and vibration probably due to deposits left on the rotors from the brake compound......leave them on.

If you want to solve your problem, put on an OEM set of pads. The vibration will be there at first, but the deposits will wear off within a week and you'll have smooth brakes again.

You'll also find that they work very well in the cold winter months during the first brake of the day....where your other pads would probably need a little heat in them to make them work as well.

BTW, I never turn my rotors when I put on new pads, just replace them when it's time.....I don't think they have anything to do with it.

Thanks Paul - so you think I can leave my coated rotors on and just put stock stock pads on?

Default Paul - also - I think (2nd owner) I have 90,000 miles on my current rotors....since I have the new .

rotors, maybe I should put on the rotors with stock pads.... although I hate to throw away the Axxis pads....do you think it worth to sand them down?

Default See if you can return the pads

I ended up getting a refund on my Porterfield pads after complaining, even though I had them on for six months.

If you have new rotors, get the OEM pads, and put them both on.....after 90,000 miles, the rotors are probably pretty close to end of life.

Default You might want to try to de-glaze/de-gunk the rotors with a series of hard stops.

Do four or five stops from 60 to 10mph in sequence. Otherwise, the advice here is good.
