Default Fuel additives - any users/recommendations?

Does anyone use a fuel additive on a regular basis? I normally use Chevron gas - and haven't used an additive in a long time.

Are they basically BS? or does anyone have recommendations?

I would also appreciate hearing of your experiences - good or bad.

Default We like to use Techron just before an oil change to reduce carbon buildup...

The gas in CA is blamed for carbon buildup in our A4, but it may have been a deteriorating Mass Air Flow sensor that made it run rich. In any case, we like to run through a tank's worth of Techron a week or two before an oil change (it can contaminate oil, I believe).

I think I may have gathered other recommendations in the FAQ. Look in the "fuel" section, and for the word "carbon."

Default That's a really good idea.

It also gives me an excuse to put off an oil change for a week.

Down to WallyWorld tomorrow.

Default Audi uses their own additive that you can get at the service parts shop...

I always wondered why my car ( 94 S4 ) ran so well after I picked it up from a service until I filled up the tank and it went back to the usual. Turns out they add a bottle of their own gas additive/octane booster/carbon deposit prevention goop with each service. My new 4.2 pings at low rpm with the 91 octane SoCal gas so my service tech told me to use it with each fillup. Seems to help! Plus, its Audi Approved so they cant moan if there is a problem.. Its called
Audi Gasoline Additive ( strangely enuff)... part no. ZVW 239 003. about $3 per unit. Get em by the case..Its a continuous usage formula or so they say...

You will face trouble trying to match the paint hue on plastic vs. the nearby metal panels.,

Default Techron additive is good...BG44 even better

I run a bottle of Techron thru every 3K; my mostly city driving makes me worry about carbon deposits.
