Hard starting '99 A6

Hard starting '99 A6
I have a '99 2.8 30v Avant A6 and it has developed a bit of a hard strating problem. It cranks fine but it may not actually fire and run for 5 seconds or more. The temperature guage is fine so I'm not sure if the engine temperature sensor is bad. It doesn't do it every time and otherwise once it starts everything seems fine.
Any ideas of things I can check out?
Thanks

If you can, get the DTC codes from the ECU. It will most likely
point you in the right direction (If there are any). Should be able to stop by a parts store and get the codes read or...find a local with a VAG-COM.

Re: Sparkplugs?
I guess it's a possibility. I replaced them about a month ago and put bosch platinum plugs. The hard starting symptoms didn't pop up right away, but it was after that.
I've been working alot on this car lately. It had vacuum leaks so I replaced all of the hoses. It developed a mis that I finally traced to leaking valve cover gaskets so I replaced those. I also replaced the cats, o2 sensors, fuel filter, tie rods, and in the next week it will have a new timing belt, water pump, tensioner, outer cv boots, and tires. Can you say current on maintenace??
There aren't any codes. I bought a reader to figure out the misfire. It hasn't set any codes since then. It runs good like it should with all that work, but it just cranks too long. I would rather live with the problem than take it to the dealer, that's just the way I am.
I haven't checked the fuel pump pressure, but the pump is quite all the time.
