ok. so i turn on the Rocket Ship (silly knickname, i know....but VERY fitting), i go toward the freeway on Torrance surface streets and all-of-a-sudden

BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! way loud.

low gas warning? NO
flux capacitor overheating? NO
some sensible error message at all? NO!

so the message displayed (where the radio station usually is..) is a number 1 right next to a large circle with MPH on the inside of it. i also observed that it would only come on when i approached 50mph...stay on for a bit, and go off/clear if i decreased or increased my speed.

when i turned the car off and then back on : GONE!

what the?!

Yup, that would be your speed warning. You have two of them - #2 is a "permanent" speed limit warning, #1 (which you saw) is the ?non-permanent one. You can set both/one/neither of them - instructions for both are in the manual.

Read the manual...It is your speed limiter warning. You can set it to whatever speed you want..

I've mistakenly hit the button wanting to look at the service warning while pulling out of the garage and it's set at 5mph!!! The beeping drive me crazy

I hate that damned speed warning sooooooo much. I accidentally turn it on approximately once every x months, where x = the amount of time it takes for me to forget how to turn it off... usually ends up taking me about 30 seconds of fiddling to figure it out again... and of course I usually set it at, say, 10mph....
