Default Heater Blower Motor Replacement - Need Help

Greetings:

I am experiencing a chirping or even a little squealing coming from the HVAC blower fan. It is only apparent at lower speeds (3 bars and less).. I think this is a sign that the blower fan is going out. Anyone have to replace theirs yet? I could use some BTDT and some parts prices too.

TIA

Default It's easy...

...pull the glovebox and there she sits. Remove the screws, lide it out. Installation is reverse. If you need to see how to remove the glovebox look for my post on cleaning out the evaporator drain.

You're lucky. Mine told me it was my imagination.

Default I used a small battery operated tape recorder to record & play back to the dealer.

No "imagination" excuses then.

Not sure, haven't had to price one yet. I would guess around $100-150, aftermarket.

38 year old Mother of twins here...and full-time teacher. Love to tinker with cars. I've been hooked on reading this site ever since buying my '97 A6 Quatro Avant last year. I started by dragging it right in to a GREAT local guy and had the cam seals replaced (not cheap, but fixed that oil leak/ burn smell right away). Then...had to do some tie-rod work. Yesterday I turned on the heater and it sounded like 3 blenders with rocks in them...behind the dash. I checked out this site and saw QCrazy's info. on this topic and was SURE I could fix this myself. I popped out the glove box, pulled the plug, clipped a couple of plastic bands around some hose that were up against the fan motor, then tipped out the fan.....and there was a massive grass/leaf, etc.. nest imbedded in there. I dumped that out, screwed it all back together and low and behold it worked just fine. I'm glad that was an easy fix....I called around and neither NAPA, VIP and nor Carquest carried a cabin fan=heater fan. I called the nearest Audi dealership and new it would be $250....special order. If that fan ever does go I'll follow audiworld advice and shop on line...and definitely do it myself! Thanks QCrazy!!!!!!!!!!!
