Hello guys, it been months since my last post on here. I just got married and I don't

know where my time goes anymore. Anyway I have a strange issue today with my engine light and I am not sure what to think about it. On Monday morning of this week I started my car and I see my engine light came on. I turned the car off and I checked the gas cap to make sure it was on securely, since I have heard that can trigger an engine light if it is not on properly. The light stayed on so I made an appointment to bring the car into my mechanic tomorrow. Then yesterday afternoon I filled the car up with gas and this morning I noticed the engine light is now off. Any thoughts on what the cause of this could be?

Might have been the gas cap, which does not necessarily clear immediately..

...but if the CEL came on, an error code is stored and can be easily retrieved with a VAG COM or a trip to the dealer (but not sure how much $$ they will charge you). It would be a shame to pay the dealer a "diagntostic fee" for something as simple as the loose gas cap.

I would recommend you wait to see if it comes back, and in the meantime, have Santa (or whoever you expect during the Holidays) get you a VAG COM cable

an O2 sensor that is doing the death dance?

I've had experience that as it's dying it'll operate fine, then fail, then operate, then fail...then stay dead. a VAG-COM scan will clarify the source for you....

1st, congrats on getting married. My light has come on a couple times over the past year or so.

It was on last week for a few days, but the car was running fine. Could have been a misfire or something off really quick. It takes 3 good longer runs for the light to go off if there is not a continuing issue.
