Default HELP - 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro blown engine

My 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro (25,000 miles) blew its engine due to a defective bearing in the water pump. The warranty expired a couple of weeks before. The kicker is that it was scheduled to go in for its regular maintenance the NEXT day. AOA will pay 75% of the damages but not the rest; leaving me with a bill for roughly $2,500. The normal scheduled maintence for this item is at 70k miles (or perhaps it is still 90k?) No 25k mile car should have a H20 pump go! Has anyone else been in a similar situation and gotten AOA to pay full costs? If so, please let me know how!

Default Are you sure it was the pump bearing?

I have heard of failed timing belts causing major damage because these are interference engines. I suppose a bad wp bearing could break the belt, but I haven't heard of this. Otheres may have better info.

In any case, it seems awfully early. My wp blew at about 40k miles and they did the belt at the same time.

Another case for an extended warranty, guys. I am sorry for your situation.

At first they told me it was the timing belt but then they said it was the wp bearing that had gone and caused the calamity.
