Default HELP DECIDING ON A 2002 2.7T QUATTRO. THANK YOU

I just drove a 2002 2.7t with 23,000 miles on it. The car was a lease with one owner. The car fax came back very clean. the car drove well and it looked very clean. It still has about 18 months of factory warranty, but it is not a CPO with the extended years. The are selling it for $24000. Is this a good buy? How about reliability issues. I currently have a Lease Saab and the long term issues have always been questionable. What is your feeling. I was initially looking an a 3.0 which seem to be a little less complicated in the sense that they do not have the turbo nor the quattro. Thank you for your valuable opinion.

Default 2002's are the best for the money, and that is a decent price for the mileage

But push for CPO for about $1K-$1500 more. Taking the warranty to 100K is very nice.

Default Sounds like a nice car. '02 is the best year for options/value/facelift

The turbos can give a little more trouble - but only usually if you aren't proactive (warm up, cool down, synthetic oil, watch closely for boost leaks) . Quattro is bulletproof and requires no special attention.

As Dude says, a CPO warranty is a very nice thing to have on a complex car like this - just in case.

Default Nice catch....you might be able to negotiate a little, but that's low mileage.

For reference, I just picked up a '01 with 55k, sport suspension and 6sp for 17.5k (in NY). CPO is nice to have if you're not a DIY kind of person.

Cheers,

Default Sounds like a steal, esp if from the dealer. When you get near the end of the factory warranty...

shop around for an ext warranty with one of the Cos that get good refs on AW. The only reason I w/b concerned about postponing the purchase (ext warranty) w/b a big increase in premium due the ext warranty Cos up-to-date claims exper/costs associated with these cars. As was sugg below, you might try working out something with the dealer that will take you thru your planned ownership period. Based on my exper, you don't want to be out of warranty with these cars.
