Default Help picking a cat-back exhaust

I have a 2000 A6 2.7T. My exhaust is cracked and falling off, and the OEM replacement is very expensive.

I'd like to replace the system with a cat-back stainless system... but want something that is essentially as quiet as the stock system at steady-state highway speeds. Loud is ok for full throttle... but it has to be quiet in the cabin at normal highway speeds.

Thoughts? Does anyone have the APR Stainless system? Can you comment on the cabin noise under tame driving conditions?

Any other exhaust recommendations for quiet highway driving?

Thanks.

What part of the exhaust is falling off? The mufflers? The resonator?

An exhaust shop can build and weld a new exhaust together for you, cheaper than OEM.

Both pipes are cracked at the resonator, and both brackets at this point are rusted off so that the exhaust is only held on at the motor and at the mufflers. The entire system behind the cats is rusted quite badly and it isn't worth the effort to have someone weld the system back together only to have it crack at another spot in 4 months.

I'm sure any muffler shop would piece together a system for it... but I want something that is properly fit to the car.

If you are in the Denver area, I have the stock cat back exhaust for my '02 S6 in storage. I replaced it with an RS6 system...should bolt right up to a sedan.

If you buy an after-market exhaust, you also have to ship it.

I have the APR stainless catback on my stage 3 and I love it.
perfect combination, just a bit more noise and sounds nice, especially at idle. Nothing that disturbs the neighbors.
