For about 2 week off and on the car would have a hesitation when pulling out into traffic on a cold start, once almost stalling. Then the check engine light came on. My shop said the MAF sensor is on it's way out, also there could be a problem with one of the O2 sensors but the MAF needs to be replaced 1st to re check it. I looked at Clair for a price on the MAF and there was a note saying no new ones from Audi only rebuilt ones for just over $100 and about $25 to put it in so I guess I'm getting off cheap. We will see Friday.
Then today I had trouble starting it after driving so the engine was hot (poor thing) had to give it some gas to make it kick but then it ran OK. I also dumped the oil and replaced with mobil 1 5w 40 and added a voltage regulator. Now I have to wait to see how everything runs.

I'm pretty sure the MAF can just be cleaned...

The MAF is warrantied to 70K miles.

it was the coolant sensor for me. check engine came on, next morn took too long to turn over. ob2 said p1296. had coolant sensor changed, all ok now. also, does yours smell faint of coolant when hot?

when they first looked at it they thought it was the coolant sensor but the vag said maf and I also had the sensor changed over a few months ago
I getting the maf in the morning so I hope all will be fixed...

Just had mine replaced under warranty, MY2000, no mod. Was having CEL and poor gas mileage.
