Hey PeteRD, how did you determine the S6 Avus wheels don't require longer bolts?

Hey PeteRD, how did you determine the S6 Avus wheels don't require longer bolts?
Did you measure the distance from the bottom of the bolt hole to the inside of the wheel where it meets the hub? Is it the same as the stock 2.7T wheels? TIA.

Good choice on the wheels. Mine are on the way as well. Its been a long wait!! Hopefully they will arrive within 3-4 weeks!!

Its an Audi wheel. It has the proper bolt-pattern (size, spacing), and the proper off-set.
Its on the S6 (which is based on the A6 4.2), and has the same front brakes as the A6 2.7T. I've seen them on urS6s at the track and talked to the owners there as to what they were running...spacers, brakes, etc. Corresponded with several owners on the S-car list, and there is also a full technical section on Audi wheels on that site. Talked to the resident gurus in our region of QCUSA who deal directly with Audi Sport, and the person who ran the g-p.
After all that, I felt very comfortable ordering the wheels.
The only "caution" I would add with these wheels is to verify the fit/clearance of the tire/size you choose. I have Yokohama AVS Sports, size 245/45 x 17, and there is VERY, VERY little clearance at the upper control arm! It does clear, and after 5 track/driving events with a lowered car (Eibach sport springs), there have been absolutely NO (none, nada) problems. But not all tires of the same size designation are the same (physical) size, so if you choose 245/45s of some manufacture other than Yoko AVS Sports, I would advise a "test" fit.
If you choose tires sized 235/45 x 17, there should be ample clearance at the upper control arm, but it will still be close.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Thanks, Pete. I'm going with 235/45R17 P-Zero Rossos...
...so I think I'll be all set on the control arm clearance. It's amazing the tolerances are so slim when you get down there and look at the caliper and tire/control arm clearances!
Re the wheel bolts, I was curious if the same amount of thread shows when the stock bolts are inserted into the Avus as wheel as with the stock wheels. For example, if there's 3/4" of thread showing at full insertion on a stock wheel, and there's only 1/2" showing when inserted into the Avus wheel, it probably requires 1/4" longer bolts to avoid increasing the stress on the threads (since fewer are actually holding the wheel on.) It seems many aftermarket 17" wheels require longer bolts since they apparently are thicker at the bolt holes than the stock wheels. Any comments on this? TIA.
Hopefully the wheels should be here in the next 3 or 4 weeks, and I can't wait!!

I used the same "lug" nuts that were used with my "stock" split-spoke OEM wheels...
and the brake clearance is actually much better with the AVUS wheels than the stock with new brake pads.
As far as how much thread is used by the nut for stock vrs AVUS, I'll let Steve B. answer that.

How do the S6 wheels differ from the S4?
did you order these through the dealer? do you mind telling me what you paid for them? I was thinking of trying to buy a set of S4 Avus wheels off of a S4 owner to create the same look.

Different off-set and width. Soon, you can order thru the dealer, or Clair Parts. I paid
$235 each for mine last year thru a group-purchase, which is a LOT less than this year's g-p. A lot of A6 drivers have bought the S4 AVUS wheels for their cars. I run a wider tire than the S4 wheel can handle.
