How many 99 Avant's have rusty roof channel?
Reading the post on the intrument cluster (mine is bad too), I wonder how many other 99 Avants have the same rust as mine?
After two trips to the dealer and several discussions in between with AOA, the bottom line is "tough cookies".
Apparently, it has to be rusted through to qualify. I wasn't optimistic they'd fix it under the paint warranty, but after hearing Niel (from Pittsburgh) got his identical rust fixed, it was worth a shot. Maybe I shouldn't have called the service manager a liar when talking to AOA the first time he told me it was a "paint imperfection" and not rust.
My definition of rust through is that which originates under the paint. The dealer and regional manager's take was it was "surface rust". How in the heck can metal rust which is under the paint be called "surface" when there is no damage to the paint from the outside? My thinking is the welded seam wasn't sealed correctly allowing the rust to start underneath.
So, I wonder how many other 99 Avants have this same bubbly, under-the-paint rust along the rain channel on the roof?
If there were like a million people (hopefull exageration) with the same problem, what is involved in making AOA recognize it as widespread? What is involved to actually make them fix it under warranty? Holding a gun to the service manager's head might have immediate results but make it hard to drive when I am behind bars afterwards.

And how much did that cost that guy? : ) I wouldn't mind having my car repainted...
eventually. Previous owner didn't take very good care of the paint. FWIW, my shop quoted me $6000 to repaint it

I do, if the car doesn't get totalled, I'll have it fixed
