Default how to remove that pesky connector

I am going to replace my coolant temp sensor this weekend. I tried to remove the electrical connection plug earlier and was stymied. Granted it is not in the easiest location. I have always had problems with this particular connector, on the brake pads and in other locations. What is the proper and easy way to remove this plug?

i have a write up posted on the tech section. I think i have pics of it apart. As i recall its different from the brakes - its a push the locking tab while pulling, and, yes, its a PITA. But check the write up - its more permanent than my memory at the moment!

You can remove the coolant temperature sensor from its seat first. After that take care the connector.

That's if the sensor is not stuck. If so, you will want to remove the connector so you can pull the sensor out with pliers. Trying to pull on the connector to get the sensor out will break the connector in most cases.

Use a hose pick (or the top of a clothes hanger). Pull up the release clip/tab, then, while holding the clip/tab up, pull the connector off.

Normally you'd just put a flat-head into the slot and turn to release that locking clip/tab thing, but I couldn't get a flat-head on it @ the temp sensor location.

Video on how to remove the connector that I found a while back, unfortunately I don't remember who posted it to be able to credit them for it. Made it really simple for me:

I would NOT turn the screwdriver...as you can see from the video it distorts the tab and generally breaks it...the way to do it is to put the right width screwdriver in the slot and move the screwdriver such that the entire width of the screwdriver lifts up the tab. The strong part of the tab is on the outside edges...if you pry up the inside it will often break rather than bend as it shows in the video.

YMMV.

Many connectors release if you push them in tighter first, then pull. Works that way for the foglight connectors, wear sensors, etc.
