Default I guess it isn't THAT bad...

I'm probably going to sound pretty picky posting this, but....

I left the car on the street for not more than 15 mins yesterday... come back and THIS is what I find! At first I though that maybe it was just a scuff, but after taking a close look this morning, I found that the paint is actually scraped away and smudged up also. Uggh. I'm guessing someone pulling out of their space clipped me. &@$%!!

Just can never keep a car flawless for a very long with all these people that don't know how to pull in or out of parking spaces. Has anyone had a rear bumper re-painted... how much?

But I guess that it isn't that bad considering I heard from another 12v A6 owner this morning who ran into some trouble with a deer @ 60mph. That isn't a very pretty sight. No 12v should have to go through that kind of pain!!
>>Muhammad

Default Is the paint actually gone...(more)

...or can you polish the scuff out?

Whether it's "that bad" or not, it still sucks that someone would have such low regard for another's property that they wouldn't at least leave a note. Sorry, Muhammad.

I'll bet that can be rubbed out with the right product. My car was 1 week old when a metal bbq rotisserie motor fell off my garage shelf on to the hood. The entire assembly then rolled down the hood and the front bumper. Looked like the paint had been scratched something awful. On the way to drive off the pier into the Pacific, I stopped at body shop I know and he had a guy rub it out in 5 minutes. Like new! Hope you have the same luck!

Default See below - unfortunately the paint is damaged so even if...

...that one light colored smudge could be rubbed out (I will have to look at it even closer to see if the paint is gone there, too) I'd still have the scrape in the paint.
>>Muhammad

Default Sorry to hear about that...a short term solution...

My wife is the master a scraping her black car's corners on our white aluminum siding. I gave up getting her car fixed fixed because she does it so often. Here is my short term solution:

Requirements:

- No7 Clearcoat Polishing Compound
- Colored car wax to match the car's color (from Pep Boys or similar parts store)
- Zaino #2 Show Car Polish (shameless plug)

Procedure:

- Use the clear coat polish to clean the scratched area since the damage is usually paint+scratches. This gets off the other car's (or "house" in my case) paint. Rinse the area when done.

- Apply 2-3 coats of the colored car wax to the scratched area being careful to limit the wax coverage to the scratch as much as possible.

- Apply a coat of Zaino #2 polish over the colored wax to better blend the colored wax with the rest of the paint. The shine makes the scratch much less noticeable.

This at least makes the car better to live with until you have it professionally repainted.
Charlie
