rear suspension in 2002 4.2 A6s? I heard a similar sound before I replaced the front control arms. I also hear a similar sound coming from the back of my Tahoe now that I think about it. Just thought I'd ask before taking it in since I just spent over 630.00 on new tires (BFG 255-40-17 super sport all seasons-no snow in LA). Thanks for your help.

Coil springs were busted and a piece was lodged causing the noise.

I wish I knew someone that could look at it on a lift and tell me what it is before taking it in!

it is stored. Sometimes the wheel is a bit loose and one hears a clunking noise when going over bumps.

When did it start? What's in the trunk?

Mine rattled everytime I went over a bump. Drove me crazy trying to figure out what it was. The fact that it was somewhat muffled by the side panel in the trunk made it harder to find. A small piece of cardboard wedged in the right spot solved the problem.

I hope your issue is a simple to fix as mine.

the sound. Could it be the muffler mounts? I'm gunna have to take it in. Maybe a loose sway bar? It does sound like a mettle rattle.

the retainer clip on the rear brakes? had to replace my rear brakes the noise went away.
