I just saw my first Q7 on the road...I liked it....could be an alternative to a ToeRag

Same here, I posted about it on OT (but someone made a good point, its slow).
For all that money I'd pony up the extra funds and try and find a used a CPO Porsche Cayenne Turbo

The ToeRag has it all over the Q7 for me. The Touareg is...
... prettier, smoother, more classically appointed in the interior, just all-around a car I could drive proudly.
The Q7 looks like a big F.U. to the little people in your way. "Look how successful and large I am."
It's an unholy alliance of A6 and truck. Yes, they did a nice job. Yes, it's an Audi. Yes, they'll sell all they can.
I drove them all at "Streets of Tomorrow", from A3 to A8 and the Q7 in between. And I thought it was telling that most people there wanted to drive the sedans and Avants and TT's, not the Q-ball.
Of course, I say this with all due respect to anyone who's decided to acquire one. May every trip to the local Chevron be a pleasure, and may the fingers raised in salute be your own, I say with a smile...

Another telling strategy, visible at Audi's "Streets of Tomorrow" promotional...
...was that the 'competitors' that Audi brought for us to drive were the BMW X5 (about to be replaced), the Volvo XC90 (hardly a competitor; more like for the allroad) and the Lexus LX 470 (looked like a tank).
The real comparison would have been between Q7, Cayenne, and Touareg. But that would have pitted brand against brand on a shared platform, and that's a corporate no-no.
But it would have been a better day at the coned-off track for all us drivers, I think...
