I need the 3rd-row seat for my A6 Avant! Help!
I just got a '99 A6 Avant, and I love it! However, I can't find the rear-facing child seat. One dealer said he could get it for $1,800, but that's a little more than I find reasonable.
Where do you folks get your parts? New, used, I don't care. Suggestions? Links? Thanks very much.

So you can buy the seat for an Avant that didn't come with one in the first place? Having said that,
what about the S6? I can see myself getting one in the future, and having the additional seating option is nice (for occasional use only, of course)

In later cars you had to order it from the factory. It came with belts, and mounting brackets.
The earlier Avants came with this hardware in place, just needing the seat to complete the package. The seat was much much less expensive when it came with the car from the factory, but was quite expensive if ordered through the dealer (over $1K).

what kind of "industry" these engineers are at?
as far as I can see the rear facing seat is safer, than fron facing front seat. Rear end collision happens when both cars move in the same direction and only difference of speed is applyed. As a result not so many kids are injured in rear end collision. At the same time in front end collision these kids are in the safest place and safest direction.

Try this link...
I had first looked at the Advant for our family of six. When we went shopping for one and inquired about the rear seat, I was asked by the salesman "which one of your kids' don't you like." I know back in the 60's and 70's as kids we thought it was cool to ride in the back facing backwards. Some kids end up with car sickness if they don't adjust to the akward movement.

http://www.800allaudi.com/</a

Re: Not to pee in your porridge, but
I think you'll agree that it is much safer than tossing a bunch of loose kids in the back of a wagon, or putting two kids to a seat belt, both of which I refuse to do.
So, $400, eBay. Thanks for the help.
