If ya can't price it, don't hype it!
Only a few weeks from its intro but AoA hasn't announced US pricing for the new A6? I get e-mails hyping the car from AoA every other day, but no pricing info. Makes me think they're afraid its going to be too high.

Pricing rarely arrives much more than a few weeks ahead of the cars.
In some cases there will be a little trickle of early production cars before formal pricing is released from AoA, and you can deduce from what is on the MSRP, as to what the rest will cost. If that doesn't happen, in this case I would guess that we'll see pricing in late August at the soonest.
If like in the past, look up the comparable BMW, knock off $4 to 5K, and add in more standard equipment.

They could also be worried about moving existing inventory...
if the price is not much higher. Better to let everyone assume that prices will go up so they can sell the rest of their '04s. Otherwise, they will have some very old/new cars on their lots.

but do we know the range?
If the new baseline 3.2 A6 goes to $45K MSRP as rumored, thats a huge 25% leap from the $36K of the current baseline A6 (3.0). If that's their new range, I'll not be very eager. Barring a huge surge in popularity (unlikely), Audi's historically lousy depreciation record will, at the end of the day, make it a much more expensive car to own than its competition.

You're not comparing apples with appples. The 3.2 replaces the
2.7t which baseline was more than the 3.0. Somewhere around 42k IIRC. My 'guess' is the new model 3.2 will be a few K more than the 2.7t was.

Wrong car to compare. Think 2.7t, not 3.0. Output is similar.
Base price for a BMW 530 is $44K. Equipped with premium package, sound package, automatic, cold weather, split fold down seats, and heated rear seats puts you in the mid-$52K range. That's about where the A6 4.2 should start!!!!!
The 530 has 225hp and 214ft lbs of torque. Down a fair bit from the Audi's 255hp and 243ft lbs of torque.
So an average of around mid to high $40K range does not seem nearly so unreasonable.

Don't agree...the 3.2 will be the baseline A6
I don't want to be overly critical since I haven't seen the new model yet (maybe this Friday), but I can't just shrug off such a big price kick. Its still an A6 with the base V6 engine. A 25% jump in baseline model cost is far more than an model year price adjustment.
Audi's advantage was value; more content for lower price. Now they're going to be virtually head-to-head with the 5 Series (though its now godawful homely) and the E-class. I think it's going to be a hard sell.

Just think of Audi as changing the curve. By dropping the "base" engine, they have new range:)
Let's face it, Americans are HP mad, and 220hp is fine, but not good for the marketing dept bragging rights. Now BMW can't compare the "base" 5 series power output and come out ahead of the Audi. Add to that a price that will probably be several thousand lower for more equipment, and you'll have the typical Audi bargain.
Word is that BMW is preparing a 3.5 I6 to compete, and may drop the 530 entirely. That means an Audi 3.0 would really be scraping the bottom of the barrel. My understanding is that the 3.2 will be used in the A4 and all other cars that presently see the 3.0. Sounds like the 3.0 is being phased out except in markets that are taxed on engine displacement.
