IF you could, '04 parts avail & '01 car near - SWAP WHAT?
So, speaking purely hypothetically, your dealer gives you an '04 2.7T loaner for the weekend, at least (say, your A4 or TT or something is in service for a few days). Very nice loaner; starts you thinking. You have an '01 2.7T in the garage. What parts from the '04 would improve your '01?
1. Steering module is clearly a desireable upgrade, and a noticeable difference between the two. Really like that '04 module - which one is it?
2. That 6 disc Bose head unit is pretty nice compared to the single disc Bose unit in the '01. Wonder if that's an easy swap?
3. Like that sport mode in the AT. Can't improve that on the '01 too easily, though.
4. '04 (and '03) dropped passenger memory seat - a downgrade in content with no customer benefit.
5. Boost controls or other valves changed from '01 to '04? Any other module or such improvements to eliminate '01 stuff?
Pipe in, friends. Share your theoretical thoughts. Links to relevant posts would be helpful. . .

Re: Just swap the VIN plates, he'll never notice and theft is theft, right?
I agree they'll probably not notice anything obvious at an Audi dealer . . .
what theft? this is merely a purely hypothetical discussion based upon real life experience (but your real experiences would be appreciated).

We may have to send a crew of curmudgeons over to beat you up with our canes.
You can swap whatever you want. You can rob a bank, and steal the silverware from your grandma's house. I kind of doubt that this is as hypothetical as you suggest. Don't ask me why I'm asking this, but are you from NY or NJ?

Re: We may have to send a crew of curmudgeons over to beat you up with our canes.
Friends, countrymen and crumudgeons, I can barely screw in a lightbulb, let alone swap a transmission or a head unit. Besides, y'all know that I don't own a 2.7T (see my sig).
Seriously, what are the differences? Audi changed the steering module, as is well documented here. I mentioned some other differences, but are there turbo system or boost control updates as well? Anything designed to prevent the dreaded dual turbo failure my neighbor suffered with his 2.7T?
BTW, the '04 feels really nice, and it's brand new. Makes you think, what could you do to transfer the newness over to your own car, y'know?

I think there were lots of improvements in turbo plumbing.
But I doubt that you could do a straight swap without software changes. I could be wrong.
The 2001 probably has the HP2 brake set up, which is actually better than the '04 set up -- though more prone to warpage.
If your loaner has beige sport seats, send them to me please. I'll send you my fat, flat, soft non-sport seats.

Hey, I resent that! Are you a slick DC special interest lawyer/lobbyist?
And aren't you originally from New Rochelle anyway? This poster is a whacko! Is he or isn't he trying to steal parts off his loaner?!

I know of what I speak.
Having grown up in NR, and moved out, I can say with 100% certainty that there is a Northeast lawlessness that you do not see in most other parts of the country (except parts highly populated by people who left the Northeast!).
