This is a little off topic but I know someone here will be able to answer it for me. I got a 30g iPod Photo for fathers day and have downloaded about 1.5g of music. The sound quality was pretty crappy. I noticed that there is an eq feature on iTunes and adjusted it to my liking. My question is does this eq only affect what I'm dl'ing to iTunes or will affect what I dl to my iPod. If it only affect what is coming into iTunes how do I go about fixing what allready been dl'd to itunes?

The iPod has an EQ, as well.

Yeah I found that but it's all presets. The one on iTunes is a 7 band eq. Is there something like that on the iPod itself?

The thing about the iPods is that if the sound level of the file is too high than most of the presets you choose will sound like crap.

To fix this you have to drop the volume level down on your files. The program I use to do this is MP3Gain. I use it to globally drop the gain on all of my MP3 files to 89. Anything higher than this will give me distortion at high levels in the bass range when using presets that adjust bass.

Also, headphones make a big difference with the iPod. It's hard to embark on the quest for the ultimate headphones though as they get pricy pretty quick and one person's jewel is another's lump of coal so I won't go into recommendations on this . .<ul><li><a href="http://www.dapreview.net/content.php?article.133">Read more about this here . .</a></li></ul>

also have a big effect on the sound quality. MP3's are crap. I have found the best Space/quality compromise is to make sure your raw input files are full wav (1444KBS) which is CD quality or if you are downloading, make sure they are SHN or FLAC files (both lossless Audio compression files) than import into I-pod at the 192kbs AAC setting.<ul><li><a href="http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=Shorten">more info on the subject</a></li></ul>

just max your bit rate to get the best sound. But, your original download to you compter need to be of high qality also. Itunes, etc, do not give you the best quality. Try allofmp3.com where you can specify CD qality, or less.

First, if it isn't allready obvious, I'm new to this downloading music thing. I checked the setting and I've imported everything as an AAC file, which I now understand to be pretty bad quality. I'm guessing that the only way around this would be to re-digitize everything from scratch? I've gone in and reset my import setting to MP3 and 192kps. Should I go with Apple Lossless or WAVE instead?
