Default MAF sensor the culprit,next step?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/88430/04-14-05_1632.jpg"></center><p>Finally figured it out, after a lot of DIY dignosing, it's the MAF. My car is out of warranty. As most of you know, Audi has extended the warranty on the MAF sensors because of the troubles they caused.
My question is this:
Would the dealership agree to replace the MAF sensor on my car without wasting my time (and money) to find out what I already know, the cause for the CEL? Or would they insist on trial and error at $120/hr and crazy parts prices until they come to the same conclusion, the MAF sensor?

If they don't want to replace it, I'm more then willing to buy/install a MAF sensor on my own. The question is which one and where? Looking online I saw few ones on ebay, visually identical to mine, but they were never listed for the A6.

As always, you advice is appreciated!

Default You should buy one and install it.

I would buy from the dealer (or other supplier), but get exaclty what is made for the car. It is an easy install, and you won't have to worry about them wanting to diagnose the car like you say.

I thought mine was bad a while ago and bought a new one (around $250 I think from dealer). It turned out not to be the culprit (it was a torn TBB: I was a newbie and didn't really consult the forum much first). So, I have a spare, but it was probably the orig. MAF, and would have ~60000 miles on it, otherwise I'd feel fine offering it to you.

Default what are you depressed about ?

a $100 MAF ?

Pickup phone
call dealership
talk to parts dept.
give them part numbr on your old MAF
ask if they have a reman in stock
ask how much reman is
tell them to hold or acquire reman MAF
ask when you can bring your old MAF in to exchange as a core.

Never actually thought of the parts department!
I was too busy looking for it online, I guess.
I guess the extended MAF warranty means nothing...

Default If your MAF is covered under an extended warranty, then take it to the dealer. Provide your SA...

with the results of your trouble shooting (e.g., VAG-COM log of the air mass flowrate). You'll have to authorize ~$100 to verify that the MAF is bad, but once they confirm it, there will be no charges under the extended warranty. This procedure is what I did for my wife's '00 VW Passat 1.8L T that had a bad MAF. Result: fully covered under warranty, new part installed, no charge. If your car is not covered under extended warranty, try cleaning the MAF (using electronic cleaner or achohol) before replacing it.

Default Phil is right. Replacing with remanufactured -core is cheaper than a new one.

I went through this on my '97 A4. Just do it.

Default I just bought a Bosch rebuilt MAF from ECS for $80 shipped.

I'm going to install it, hopefully, this weekend in an attempt to rid of a VERY stubborn MAF code. I'll post back with the results.
