Default Quick update, day 2 with Pilot A/S. Fixed "stiffer" ride by dropping from 40 to 34 psi....

Tire guy had the air pressure at 40 psi which is way too much for normal driving conditions.

Now, at 34 psi, the car:
is much less "thumpy" on expansion strips and pot holes,
holds a set in turns a bit better,
firmed up the steering a bit more (a good thing).

Always good to double check the tire guys- air pressure and torque.

Default I was about to post a response agreeing with your tramlining assessment, but disagreeing with your

ride comfort assessment. We've had the tire pressure at 36 front/34 back since we got the tires (well, almost since we got the tires; that's what the tire shop was supposed to put in but, like your experience, it's not what they actually did put in), and my wife and I have both found that the Pilot Sport A/S's are quieter than the SP5000's and much, much more comfortable in terms of bumps, thumps and generally bad road conditions. Neither the Pilot Sport A/S's nor the ContiSportContact2's track lines in the road, which the SP5000's constantly did. Line, drift, line, jerk, line, jerk, rain drainage lines, help!

Do you get the feeling I'm just pissed off at Dunlop right now?

Default Interesting price discovery on Pilot A/S-->

Tirerack sells the Pilot A/S for $216 for the 235/45/17. Figure $8 per tire for shipping and at least $10 per tire for balance and mounting once you get them for a total of $234 per tire. I called a local dealer with a good reputation here in Nashua, NH and he gave me a price of $248 per tire including mounting and balancing. That's only $14 over Tirerack and I get the added advantage of dealing with a local. He even said he would take my SP5000s in trade.

Default Similar experience....

TR price for the 225/50-15 Michelin is $192.

NTB price was $203.

NTB refunded my FULL PURCHASE PRICE on the Dunlops as Goodwill. And 2 of the 4 tires had 9,000 miles on them. And they did not charge me for mounting or balancing.

I love the Michelins and have a tremendous amount of respect for NTB. They treated me right and never questioned replacing the Dunlops with the Michelins.
