mirror upgrade

How do you upgrade a manual mirror into an auto-dim compass temp one on a 1998 a6 Quattro avant

Are you sure you want auto dim? I actually switched mine to manual because the auto dim is too dark for me. Plus the reliability is less than stellar.

One from a 98 will surely fit, but newer ones may as well.

That's what I did on a 2k4.2A6. Just bought a 2002 auto dim compass mirror and installed it on the windshield mount for the old mirror.
