Is my coolant sensor busted?
I cannot remember for the life of me, so help me out. Does the coolant sensor sit in the middle of "L" and "H" at idle? I know it does on my girlfriend's 1.8T, but I can't remember on my 2.7T. I just drove 15 miles in 100F weather and the thing didn't move. Verdict?
TIA,

Bad sensor. Common problem. Just replaced mine last week.
Gauge should sit right in the middle once you are warmed up. Never lower, never higher (makes me wonder if it's a real gauge or just a binary sensor.
Warranty obviously covers it.

I too have wondered if it was a functioning gauge until...
...I was climbing from -282 to +6000 feet out of Death Valley a week ago...at 75 mph, with the AC set to 70....and it was 114 degrees (45.5 Celsius) outside!
The water temp needle crept up 1/2 of 1 notch above the center point and the oil temp went from the usually pegged 200 to almost 225.
It works!
