my new 4.2
I drove my new 4.2 at the dealer yesterday. (I'll buy the car in the first week of January, 2001.) It has Continental tires as part of the sport package. I drove on a smooth interstate highway at speeds up to 90 mph--very briefly. I noticed no vibrations, squeaks, and rattles. I did find the 4.2's ride and handling on the soft side, probably because I am accustomed to a Subaru SVX awd with Koni shocks and BFGoodrich KDW tires, both of which make for a firm ride. The 4.2 seems to be what I want: a fine four door GT.

v nice combo.
i ordered that color combo, but was told that they make pearlescence white as a batch, and have to wait for a whole bunch of cars to paint. that would put my delivery date a month or so down the road.. so i took a Black / vanilla / black interior. no doubt a good combo. looking back, i didn't regret it, cos the pearl white looks too dirty even when cleaned... and for some strange reasons, there were 2 A6 4.2's in pearlwhite that no one will take in town... don't know why...

Re: my new 4.2
The list price for the pearlescent white paint is $1,200. The option of the pearlescent paint is not shown in the catalog, but the factory will accept the order. (Go figure.) The dealer told me that because of the paint, production of my car was delayed for several weeks. At the least, it's a good alibi.
