Default Mysterious bumping noise gone

Hey all- just thought i would post my experience-
had a local BMW mechanic check the noise i would hear when going over a bump- a thumping kind of noise mostly noticeable when 1 wheel would go over bump at a time (ie when turning) and i was told i needed a new steering rack ($1500) but when i went to the nearest audi dealer (250 miles away)the tech told me that my rack was fine but the bolts holding the rack in place were loose- he said he could finger tighten them- so once completely tightened- the noise was gone! and fortunately i was able to make it to the dealer without accident. The tech said these bolts should not have come loose, so i don't know how often this occurs, but thought i would share!
enjoy
