Need help choosing some parts! show me yours!
Hi guys/girls,
I drive a 98 dark metallic blue saloon fwd 2.4 uk a6 and im looking to purchase a few new upgrades for it.
On my list so far...
Eibach Pro Street S coilovers.. are they any good? any pics of before / after of the height difference?
3G Gr20 grooved discs all round, anybody else own these? + EBC greenstuff pads all-round.
K&N replacement filter
Splitfire ignition leads & denso iridium ik20 plugs, can anybody comment on either of these?
Last but not least, i need help choosing some alloy wheels, going to go for 18's but with 40 profile to try and maintain a little comfort. The shop im getting the wheels from has no replicas in stock at the moment so rules out rs6 & rs4 replicas. I cant afford BBS wheels but would like to see any photos of alternatives people have on their cars or any other alloys, be it 5 spoke, 9 spoke etc, im just trying to picture them on my car, i know there are websites u can see what they look like but its not the same as a photo.

No experience on most items on your list, but...
Experience taught me that Audis don't respond well to K&N filters. The oil on the filter can foul the MAF sensor and the screen-like filter offers little actual filtering of small, harmful particulate (sand). I had one on my old Audi...2 MAFs later I found it wasn't worth the minuscule power/sound improvement.
Past experience with aftermarket 'performance' plug wires has actually sapped power...as well as my wallet. That and newer vehicles are sensitive to different spark plugs...I'd stick with stock plugs; any gains from other plugs will be minimal if any and may cause problems and power loss.
I've heard good things about Greenstuff pads, and the coilovers sound like fun.

Thanks very much, maybe give the plugs, leads & filter a miss..
Im looking to drop items from the list that wont make much difference to the car so any sugegstions like that are much appreciated.

Buy the lightest, strongest 17" wheels you can find.
Ditch the K&N and the fancy plug wires. If you are using EBC Greenstuff, use flat rotors; you won't see any benefit in slotted rotors.

Yeah iam quite a sucker for looks though and I prefer the slightly larger 18" look. is there any particular make of wheels that are renowned for being lighter & stronger than the rest?

I'd pay careful attention to your selection of wheels.
Unsprung weight and rotational mass should be kept to a minimum to maximize acceleration, braking response and cornering. Depending on your driving style, you might want to consider more aggressive pad than the greenstuff.

Re: I'd pay careful attention to your selection of wheels.
So you think maybe a 17" or very light 18" wheel and maybe yellow stuff or red stuff pads instead?
Is there anyway to find out the weights of alloy wheels before you buy? iv never seen the weights advertised on websites. iv heard Rota alloys are very light but thats all i know.

Well, my choice would be Porterfield RS2 with 17's.
You'll have to ask the manufacturer about the wheel weight. For tires, assuming this is a one time event, I'd run Kumho Ecsta MX.

Ok thanks very much for the advice, iv never heard of porterfield brakes or seen them on websites in europe but I will have a proper look. As for my driving style, I would say fast but smooth, I only wish i could borrow a 2.7t or 4.2 engine for the event lol
