No prior symptoms before this no start? Is it a daily driver? What maintenance has been done in the last two years?

it had trouble starting before but it would eventually start. Then I would drive it for any amount of time but if I shut it off it would do the same thing normally I would have to let it sit for about 2 hours before starting again and it would be fine. No issues while driving but after a hard start it would smell rich for about 5 minutes of idling.

Have you looked for wiring faults? Have you looked at actual running temps with a VCDS?

I assume it is throwing the p0118 code for a reason. You could try other potential reasons for a no start like a bad crank position sensor, but I still expect this code not to be overlooked. Why does the computer think the CTS is bad? It evidently is not receiving a signal it sees as proper. You may have other issues as well but I would solve this part first. What did you use for a replacement part? Could it be bad or could the connector have failed?
