Default Need Tips to Remove Clip on 2004 2.7T Front Brakes (ATE)

I can find DIYs on A4 brakes and HP2 brakes, but I have not found anything on the ATE single piston brakes for a 2004 A6 2.7T. The outer pad retaining clip is different than anything I am seeing on the DIYs and I found the Audi instructions, but they only said 'use screw driver to pry off clip'. I tried and tried, but cannot see a good way to remove that damn clip. The pads are really worn and if I compress the caliper and free up some wiggle room I can FINALLY get it off, but by the time I got it off I ran out of time and had to put it back together. I worry that with the new pads on I will have an equal amount of trouble getting the clip back in place. Does anyone know what the trick is to getting that clip off and back on?

Is that the FN-3? If so, Bentley says:

9 - Retaining spring
Insert in both holes
of brake caliper
housing
Note:
Retaining spring must be
pressed under brake carrier
after it is inserted in both
holes. If the spring is
improperly installed, the
brake caliper cannot adjust to
compensate for wear on the
outer brake pad. This will
cause the brake pedal travel
to increase.

The beauty of brakes is you have two of them, one to look at while you wok on the other :-)

No, that is not them. I will have to find that manual. There are no holes they go in. I've done many different kinds of brakes and I just did not see how these worked without a ton a effort. Usually if I am putting too much time and effort into a clip then I am doing it wrong.

It's the FNR-G60 below FN3. It looks like it should be simple, but the caliper is huge and I don't see how it's possible to remove it as step 1 with really worn brake pads.

I've done some more searching and finally found a few other people complaining about the difficulty of the clip removal and replacement. Perhaps it is just a PITA clip. Any tips welcomed though.

Here's some DIYs and information about the brake systems on the C5s.

Brake Info:

From the Bentley

If it turns out that you have the Girling caliper (4 pad) here's an S4 DIY same as that

To check your PR numbers

To remove the clip I used a combination of screwdriver and pliers and twisted the ends and worked the clip off.
