New A6 4.2 "Paint Protection"
Just got my 4.2 Light Silver Metallic/Onyx on 12/22. After 125 miles there is a smile on my face. But more of that later. The dealer is pushing a 'ceramic based' paint protection with a lifetime warranty. This also includes an 'all surface' interior protection package with lifetime warranty. Total cost $699. The dealer wasn't too specific about what kind of protection would be applied. Knowing that I'm not an every weekend waxer, should I go for it, or is it just a waste?

Common sales gimmick
Its a gimmick that sales managers use to get back some profit they've given up in negotiating. If its "Auto Armor", it has a pretty good product if you're not a fanatic about what goes on your finish. BUT, it only costs a few bucks plus application labor to put on. I doubt it has any ceramic characteristics; probably just a polymer of some kind. Call a detailing shop and find out what they'd charge. My dealer puts it on all their Audis, BMWs, and Porches when they come off the truck; its up to the buyer to notice the $700 charge on the add-on sticker and tell 'em where to stick it.
