Default New (to me) 03' A6 2.7TQ with vibration (not good)

Ok guys,
got my new A6 home thanks to you guys in the windy city (you know who you are... and... made alot of noise and vibration on the long drive home at freeway speed. Thought it was tires out of balance so had them balanced (they were way out of balance according to the Goodyear tech.) Noise and vibration still there so I replaced those with brand new Pirelli PzeroNero M&S. Noise is gone, but vibration still there even more noticeable. Vibration continues while coasting in neutral above 50MPH.

Could it be a bent wheel or do I need to have the drive shaft looked at?

Hilfe...

Where do you feel the vibration? In the steering wheel? In the seat?

If you can localize it you can rotate the tires and see if it follows a wheel that might be bent. I doubt an 03 has driveshaft problems.

Make sure the balance is done with a Hunter machine that can do a road force balancing. Had this same problem until I realized the wheel needed a load applied when balancing.

Default I vote for....

bent wheel. Is the vibration in the wheel or in your, um...butt? If you feel it (noticeably) in the wheel than one of the fronts is bent. On your backside, and it's a rear. Cheap fix is to figure out which one is bent and switch it out with the spare.

I did this twice. First time I rotated in the spare, and the second time I placed the bent wheel in the back (not as noticeable) until I got some wheels and tires ordered.

FYI, mine balanaced at less than 15lbs (roadforce) but the small bend (1/16" of an inch) produced a noticeable vibration at speed.

Default Must Road Force Balance, that could also identify a bent rim.

If you don't find a bent rim, you'll need to check suspension components. Any clunking noises when turning or on bumpy roads?

Miles? Still under warranty?

Default LIke he said, Road Force balance strongly recommended. Will detect and

go some way to compensate for a bent rim.

I had vibration after ordinary balancing, Road Force balancing found a bent rim, but actually ride was OK afterwards. Still had the rim repaired eventually. Look for Straightrak option too, this matches tires up to give minimum left to right pull, can really make a difference.
