Nu RE040 tires (free), new trouble in the bargain
Got the recall done on the 17" Potenzas yesterday (01 2.7T/sport). Rusnak Pas replaced them with the same 225/45 tires, 91Y load rating and all, but correctly rated this time. Wasn't thrilled but since they were free.. I paid to have alignment done at the same time. Rides great, maybe a tad more road feel than the originals. Got the xenons aimed too -- hey, I've got lights all of a sudden!
Here's the crappy bit though: brake shudder is back! I had gotten new pads/reground rotors under warranty less than 10K miles ago and had them on the 'enhanced care program': break-in (burn-in?) per the recommendations, never sit on the brakes after a 40 mph+ stop, no parking brake unless needed, avoid braking to a complete halt etc. etc. I would be amazed if these rotors were out of whack already.
Funny part is, this shudder was not there at all before the tire change, now it's VERY evident when braking from over 50mph, especially on first pad contact. Anyone think this might be a tire or other balancing issue? It's only evident on braking, not a trace of vibration otherwise.
Thoughts?

Rotors are warped, probably due to overtightening
From what you described, it could be that the wheel bolts were not torqued properly or in a star pattern (probably over tightened. If you have a torque wrench, loosen the bolts, and then tighten them up to the proper specs in a star pattern.

As an aside, never have your rotors 'ground' as a cure for warping..
all this does is remove mass from the rotor which weakens them and actually increases the chance of a recurrence. Audi is well aware of their warping rotors and you should just ask to have them replaced. Its not up to you to baby the thing so they wont warp. Its up to them to fix the bloody things.

Yea, thought they were putting on new ones at the time..
..but found out later that they were reground ones. My info is that this is the usual fix for this dealer (Rusnak Pasadena). Have some folks successfully insisted on brand new rotors? Have a good mind to go back there and insist on it. Only hesitation is I'll be without my kickass baby and back in a Taurus for another 2 days...
