Outside mirror question

If the glass falls out of the mirror, but is still attached to the wiring harness, do you need to get a new mirror (the whole unit) or can the glass be reset into the housing? The reason I ask this is that one of my coworkers hit an A6 this morning and that is the only damage to the A6.
