Default Paging "Coolant Loss Experts": Losing coolant.....slowly but surely..... advice please!

Hi "team AW": looking for some help from the coolant loss experts among you:

my MY 2000 2.7T with 43k miles on the clock has suddenly decided to start consuming coolant. I first noticed a spot of bright pink fluid on the garage floor about 4 weeks ago. I checked the coolant and sure enough, it was down a bit. Topped it off, no more traces on the floor, but slowly and steadily the level in the coolant reservoir has dropped until this morning the "low coolant" warning went off. Absolutely no other signs of coolant loss, as far as I can tell.

Based on previous threads, I know to check for leaks around the water pump and the secondary pump (for the heater core). I'll climb under the car this weekend, but where exactly should I focus my search for any tell-tale signs of my leak?

Thanks in advance,

JB

Default Another source is the turbo cooling pump, but that will not

really leave any trace as the heat evaporates it.

Good luck...keep us posted

Thanks Pete, I'd forgotten about that possibility.

Default I just had mine replaced...

It ran about $800 parts and labor...mostly labor (Aux coolant pump). Same exact symptoms as mentioned above. My extended warrenty did not step up(I'm at about 55K)...but Audi may help...not sure. Good Luck

Default Yet another leak source is the coolant tank itself

Look for pink residue directly underneath the tank.

I had the coolant leak myself this year on my S4, and if I remember correctly, it was the secondary pump that failed. I think the bill was around $500.

Thanks Jmacs - why did the extended warranty not apply? What was their "out"?

Default They told me...

they would cover the main coolant pump, but not the aux pump. I went down swinging, but with no results.
