Default Passenger halogen headlight condensation... doh!

So as of the last couple weeks, my passenger side headlamp has been fogging up in the warm temps after a good rain or car wash. I have never taken them apart for the clear corner mod or anything, so I assume the seal is starting to go bad. I've checked the seating of the bulb carriers and they all seem nice and tight.

This weekend I'm going to try and pull it, maybe do the CC mod, and reseal using the oven method.

However, as any good AW'er would do, this little issue has me thinking of grandiose mods - the halogen to xenon allroad conversion. I did STFA, and found some helpful posts. I do like Sarge's reflector only mod, but since my housing seems shot, and it is pretty scratched up after 6 years, I'm thinking it's time to continue the mods.

Still, my #1 question is:

Anyone know the best place to source this upgrade? I need the full deal, ballasts, both lamps, and all. I know it's not a cheap proposition... anyone sitting on a set of allroad lamps? Email me...

Danke fur ihre hilfe.

Default Bummer...

That was one of my major concerns when doing teh CC mod, but nene did a great job re-sealing the lamps using the heat gun on the adhesive.

BTW - the sig is great, but shouldn't wyou avhe both hands on the wheel in a turn???

Default Just got the checkered flag... waving at corner worker(and Kimchee) on cooldown lap!

Besides, I shift manually 100% of the time. So occasionally, I'm one handed. Rarely in turns though, the torque hit really upsets the balance.

Default I have most of the wiring, ballasts, etc to upgrade a halogen to HID...

in fact, I have a set of halogen ecodes (got them in mint condition for $100 last year...ha!!) that I will be using for the upgrade.

Based on my knowledge of these housings, the major difference between the Halogen and HID are:

- HID projectors (attached to a similar housing via a special bracket - see gold bracket in pix)
- Auto leveling motors (heck...I don't use 'em - not needed for this mod. Ha!)
- Ballast (mounts underneath the halogen/HID housing) - It's important to get the one via ebay that is from an A6 as the bulb holder piece is at a specific/unique angle and special cover piece incorporated into the balast wiring.
- (optional) Rear cover for housing - (the HID version has an opening for the ballast/bulb wiring..but a dremel can do the trick to. You just need to create a good seal in the rear...or you'll get condensation.
- The low-beam bulb: Of course you need a D2S for these projectors.

I think that covers it. The wiring is the same...as the ballast just feeds off the same +/- as the low beam.

I've been collecting all kind of spare parts on ebay over the past two months so I can do this. I'll probably have lots of extra stuff left...so we should chat when you are ready.

Of course, see my sig for my OEM HID upgrade (complete housings)
