I realize this is 10 years old, just replying to it in case anyone finds it when searching as I did.
The seat back DOES NOT come off the same way as a B6 A4. If you start prying at the top of it like a B6 you will only damage things.
To remove it, grab it at the very bottom, and pull backwards with sharp tug. You will feel some clips realease at the bottom. Now untuck the fabric at the bottom corners of the seat cover, from underneath the seat back. From here there is a plastic strip that works much like a bug screen on your windows at home. It slips in a groove around the inner portion of the seat back all the way around the portion with the seat back pocket attached to it. The actual card that covers the seat is much larger that what is visible when it is installed. When the plastic is fully removed the seat back cover will slide out giving you access to the innards of the seat.

My A4 B7 driver seat lumbar support popped one day. I took the seat back cover off, saw that a rivet at the bottom center of the mechanism had sheared off. All I did was cut out that broken rivet and replaced it with a nut and bolt. Works fine now.
