Default question about a6 steering feel

I went out and tested the 4.2 listed in this acution last night
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2478473675&cat egory=6004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd =1

It was relatively clean...a few minor problems the dealer claims he will sort out, but one thing about the car:
the steering felt really really loose, and for that reason I didn't like the way it drove. Is this something that can be fixed (tighten wheel, alignment maybe?) Is it something about the 4.2's steering?? anyone here know, because the steering feel was pretty much the deal breaker on an otherwise clean and well equipped car with a great color combo! other a6s I've seen/driven didn't feel like that?! I have another 9 hours to decide before the auction ends.

Default Who wants to tell him about the servotronic relay?

Check down through the last few days posts and you'll hear many of us raving about the glory of removing the little relay that adds boost to the power steering at low speeds (well, really at all speeds). It's an easy five minute job. In fact, it's almost something you could do before a test drive and then replace it (although replacing it appears rather more difficult than pulling it). It makes the steering significantly heavier at low speeds, but makes it feel generally more precise.

On the other hand, there could be something actually wrong with the car, so be sure that's not the case.

thanks,,, this is interesting, definately something i would do...but for some reason I doubt the other cars i drove had the relay removed, but anything is possible... anyone felt an improvement in the tightness of the steering after getting an alignment? I feel like this may also be a solution. I had noticed the steering feel improve significanly on other cars when i would get them aligned...

Default Could also be some front end problem...

I had tie rods and control arms replaced last spring on the right side, and that tightened things up significantly. I am starting to notice some rattling on the left over bumps now, so that will be next...thank god for the extended warranty...which you might want to consider if you buy this car.

I'd love to see the seller's reaction when Moa4r pulls out a toolbox and goes to town!
