Question for fellow 6 spd owners-->
Out driving last evening (nothing to do after dropping off my fiance`) I was just having fun. I went to semi-secluded area and tried one "holeshot" from the advice that I read here.
So I bring the revs to 3,000 , release the clutch (quickly, but not dumping it) while simultaneously burying the loud pedal. The car chirped the fronts, hunkered down in the rear and moved out, big time. Actually surprised me, quite a bit. No, smelly burning clutch, no drama. (although I'd be scared to try 4500 like I had read in the S4 forum)
My question is this. While cruising along normally (I tend to drive in 3rd on local streets, taching about 2500 @ 40 mph) if I get on the gas a bit (say 1/2 throttle) it feels as if the turbos aren't spooled yet. Not weak acceleration, but just not quite as strong as when the tach hits 4k. From 4k on, you can feel the car being hurled forward by boost.
Is this because of the "drive by wire" throttle, or is it because of turbo lag?
Also, has anyone here run their 2.7 in the 1/4 mile? I'm interested to see what they do.

Supposedly DBW is sensitive to RATE of pedal change more than position of pedal...
...I know it doesn't drive at all like my last Turbo which had a traditional throttle. Takes quite a bit of getting used to, but that just means I have to spend more time driving it
I do seem to be getting better results with what's almost a "lift off then mash hard to the floor" technique to replace my previous "smooth application of WOT with gentle decrease to desired velocity" throttle modulation. Very hard to describe what I did vs what I do, but there seem to be "special" semantics to communicating your desires to the DBW system vs communicating them to a traditional turbocharged vehicle. Keep at it, you'll probably be "forced" to put in a few hundred extra miles just to experiment with this - bummer! <p>Richard

It's lag...
...at low RPM's and higher gears, it takes time for enough air to move through the turbos and pressurize. Ever driven a 2.8? It feels pretty darn sluggish under 3000RPM's. That's exactly how a 2.7T feels until boost pressurizes.
