Default Question re: Polished Ext Mirror Covers. Why? What? Where?

Why are the polished ext. mirrors or black ABS mirror covers the only available ones for the A6/S6 in the US? What is the functional purpose of these polished Alum ones? And where can I get the color keyed covers on the web?

One last question. Is the roof rack removable, or is it a permanent installation? If some folks, like myself, have no plans to ever put anything on the roof, then why have them there in the first place? tia

BTW, the S6 just keeps getting better and better. If it's possible, I actually think the engine's freed up a bit since only yesterday. 150 mi? I love this overweight, over-optioned, luxurious sportwagon just the way it is! So what if it isn't as "sport" oriented as the earlier model. No more dreading not being able to drive the P-car. Can't wait to get some more miles on it so I can rev it out all the way. PS, any exhaust options out there yet?

Default Supersprint, my favorite exhaust.

But you might want to measure your pipes at the cats. coming out of cat and going in resonator. Get the dia or perimiter. If they are the same as the supersprint I have, you may be gaining only a "different sound", for $1800

No idea on mirrors but rack is removable. It is made by Thule for Audi.

Can the holes left by rack be capped or what?

Can you explain your statement better? Why am I measuring the diameter? Better sound is all I'm really looking for. What about the air induction system? Is there anything out for my S6 yet? Is it the same as the A6 4.2?

Default Not sure what holes you are refering to, but the Audi rack is very...

*finished* looking. I bought the Thule (which I still get compliments on) and it is not quite as nice as the Audi. Ultimately I chose the Thule because it was about $50 cheaper and it's more flexible. When I get a new car, I can just get a new rubber foot pack (about $20 or $30) and it will fit the new car. The Audi rack will only fit Audis to the best of my knowledge. Check out www.thule.com to get an idea of what the Audi one is actually like. They are basically the same rack. I have information on the rack I have under "mods" on my page below. Let me know if you have any questions.

Default I think you and Singletrack are talking at cross purposes

I doubt very much that the factory fitted rails on the Avant can be removed without taking out the headliner to access the bolts.

Singletrack is referring to the roof rack that is fitted to the saloon or Avant's without rails (available in some parts of Europe)which fits to the car at the locations marked with white arrows behind the door seals.

Hope that helps
