Default Radio problems

I've seen this talked about in several threads as a side conversation but decided it deserved it's own thread (if it hasn't been done already.) I have a '00 A6 2.7T in case it matters.

I'm definately seeing drift in my radio both in the station setting and in the bass/trebble controls.

It only shows up if I turn off the car with the radio on (and later start it up.)

My question is - does AOA or VAG acknowledge this as a problem and do they have a fix? It would seem not, given the fact that brand new 2001's are showing up with the issue.

Any experiences out there that might pinpoint things? I saw someone (can't remember the name) mention that a replaced PCM seems to have fixed his issue. Why would this be?

I had one of the new & improved radios installed last week because of the same problems on my 2000 A6Q. I haven't noticed the radio drift happen on the new one, I'm keeping an eye on the bass/treble changes ('cause I think they moved, but not 100% sure). I've definitely noticed that the dashboard on screen display does not come on intermittently. The radio needs to be turned off and on to make the display appear again.

Experienced drift about 50% of the time from new (July 2000) when starting up again. This went on until about mid-oct. From then 'til mid-Nov, it happened about 10% of the time. Since Mid-Nov, it hasn't happened at all. Go figure. I always leave the radio on when I turn the engine off, so haven't changed any ofmy procedures to account for the difference.

I had similar experience. Station/tone settings change when restarted. Seemed to happen a lot in the summer, hasn't happened for months. Could it be heat related? Surge from A/C? Sunspots? Phase of the moon?
