Default Raging against the radio

I've never understood when people complain about the Audi radio. I just came across this in an Edmunds road-test of the 2002 A6:

"Which brings us to the radio.

Not that it has more power. Or even better sound reproduction. Nope, Audi has made an improvement of far greater importance. It has finally rid the center console of the daunting array of buttons that have confused thousands (before and sometimes even after they waded through countless pages of the owner's manual). Now fewer buttons and improved ergonomics make the new radio one of the A6's most significant improvements."

Daunting array of buttons? Compared to an aftermarket radio? WTF?

Default Idiots...the radio is simple and if it is daunting to anyone, they may as well kill themselves...

now and be done with it...they are pathetic and the world would be a better place without idiots that can't figure out the Audi radio!

Default Radio-schmadio. To hell [or not] with the buttons; why does it sound so crappy?

...and yes, I've fiddle-dee'd and fiddle-doe'd with the settings. It's still boomey and dull sounding.

But Pete, maybe you could stop sugar-coating it and tell us how you REALLY feel!

Default Yeah, these mags **** me off with their stupid whining about radio and climate controls...

These controls in various cars may not be intuitive on first look, but once you own the car for more than 5 minutes, you know how to work it and it is no big deal...very simple. It's funny how they say that people who care about cupholders aren't real "car people", but then they'll turn around and write 2 paragraphs on how difficult it is (read...how stupid they are) to use the radio or air-conditioning. It is true that some systems may be stupid and poorly executed (eg. MB touch-screen and Acura touch-screen), but claiming they are too complex to figure out, just admits that they are dumb as wood and are unjustly breathing oxygen that could be better utilized by my garden slugs and snails.

Default I've never understood the sensitivity to hi-end sound quality

I enjoy my music as much as the next guy, and have a pretty substantial audio system at home. But I wouldn't put my speakers in the kitchen, do my listening while the dishwasher and garbage disposal are running, then complain about the quality. There may be some better factory systems than Audi's, but once you get above 25mph, its pretty much moot, isn't it?

Default I've never understood how people can be happy with cotton in their ears.

It just sounds like crap any way I adjust it. I like the (factory) radios in my other cars, the Audi simply sounds lousy (boomy and dull). I'm not asking for, nor expecting it to be "hi-end" - just decent. I actually have a pretty crappy audio system at home, and don't believe that I'm particularly picky about sound - unless it is noticeably bad. Just can't seem to tune it nicely...

I hope that helps you understand where I'm coming from, and why some people are sensitive to sound quality. And I strongly disagree that it becomes moot above 25 mph, and frankly, I am surprised that some people (my parents) listen to their radios with the bass all the way up and the treble all the way down.

How old are you? Say, are you really my dad?
