Raving S6 Road Test from SA's CAR magazine, January 2002
Hereunder are highlights of the road test. Once I'm back from holidays I'll scan the whole article and post it on my website. This road test, was, as is the case for all CAR magazine's tests <b>at sea level</B>
<b>Stealth bomber </b>
<b>We scythe through a high speed bend in a rear-wheel drive compact sportster, again and again, until they are signs of an uncomfortable limit approaching. And then, the moment we climb into the S6 and shrugs off the same bend 10 percent quicker, without even breathing hard. Rock Solid.
Reined in on the brakes and then revved until its veins begin to bulge, the S6 catapulted out of the blocks to 100 km/h <i>(62 mph)</i> in just 6.14 seconds massively undercutting the claimed 6.7. From standstill to the kilometre mark, is by saloon standards, a breathtaking 26.05 seconds.
This car with a manual gearbox would be about as good as it gets.
The tougher the conditions and the harder you drive it, the more eagerly the S6 rises to the challenge. In a sense, it almost needs to be manhandled to appreciate its huge reserves of grip and the chassis sophistication...
There are many things to like about the S6, from its understated style to its brawny engine note and peerless traction in all conditions. But somehow, the most likable thing is that it all comes together in a package that at the same time is awesomely competent, yet able to thrill.
With the athletic S6, Audi has struck that magical balance between saloon and sport.</B>

Top speed 258 km/h @ 6057 rpm in 5th <i> I got mine to 6500 rpm/276 km/h when it was still standard... and I though it was only 271 km/h. I suppose I run it for longer than they did</i>

Although Chuck540 wants us to believe the S6 is slow, it seems as though, at least here in South Africa where CAR magazine is not totally biassed for BMW's, that the S6 ranks amongst some of the quickest cars...
