Default Redesigned A6 for 2003

Has anyone else heard that the A6 will be significantly redesigned for model year 2003 and available in September/October of 2002? My dealer gave me this information last evening. Anyone seen any pictures?

Supposedly to differentiate it from the A4. I trust this guy.

Default Ok, this is why there is no chance...

there is no way in hell Audi is going to do a major makeover the year after doing a minor makeover, plus it has only been 5 years in the current configuration...way too short by Audi standards.
The A8 is in its 9th year.
The A4 did 6 years in its original format.
I suspect (based purely on speculation) that the A6 will continue in basically its current format until an all-new, all-aluminum A6 comes out for the 2005 model year. That would be 7 years total run time.
Additionally, the S6 would not come out for one year and then disappear as a new model came out for '03.
Plus, the closest thing anyone has seen to a new A6 is a few bizarrely contrived sketching of a non-Audi artist's conception of what the new A6 "might" look like.
I'm sure there's something on the drawing board and some ideas are out there that are narrowing down the possibilities of design...but no way in hell is Audi getting it all together, plus getting the all-new aluminum space-frame ready for '03 or even '04.
Just as an example, we have seen full, real-life concept-car pics of the A4 convertible for over 6-8 months...I doubt we see that car in the states earlier than perhaps a late intro '03 model...but I suspect '04 to be more likely.

Default Finny's schedule sounds right

You don't do a minor freshening if there's a major overhaul that imminent. Plus it's awfully soon after the massive reworking of the A4, which consumed much time and resources.

Opinions, you gotta love 'em, everybody's got one.

Default I have to agree too, S cars usually last 2-3 years, not 1

Even in the US.

Buy, Audi takes forever changing over the A8, huh?

Default Waiting on the A8 might have been wise

They probably wanted to see what Merc came up with, and then the infamous Bangle 7er. Now they will know whether to copy/steal anything from them, or whether to stay the course with a fairly stealthy luxocruiser.

Default Next generation A8 is due next spring...

A6 is the year after. There are no significant changes for next year. That has been printed in many auto magazines the past 6 - 9 months or so.

Default A4 actually did a bit longer

I think it probably arrived in what, 1994 as a 1995 model in Europe?

Default A6 replacement for model year '05 along with new allroad. 8-)

...Of course some additional "mods" may take place but nothing significant until 2005 model year... 8-)
