Due to noise @ idle sounds like a diesel!noise still there after replacement any ideas were to look now?
2002 C5 S6.
Do these motors make a lot of noise please help 4.2 and s6 owners,am I trying to fix something that is not broken ?.
It has made the noise for 40k.
It is not the injectors.

Did you check the timing belt rollers?

I had the same exact issue and almost bought two chain tensioners. It turned out to be a coolant hose that lead from the oil cooler to resevoir. Half way down it's a metal hose that has a bracket which the bolt had backed out. Replaced the bolt and no more noise.

Hopefully yours is something equally simple.

i have something like this it sounds like a chain tensioner or somehitng rattling very badly in the engine, but it will just randomly come and make noise for a couple mintes then it will just straight up stop, imediatly cut out, now that you say that i think it could be maybe a loose metal hose or something similar
