I had my car towed to another mechanic. Who looked at it and said there was no compression in two of the cylinders. I mentioned the fact a timing belt might change that, and he said by turning the cam shaft and closing the cylinders he could test for compression without the belt. He's afraid I'm going to need a new engine. www.engineandtransmissionworld.com has one for $1,700. If there's a site or place i can get one cheaper please let me know. I'll try calling axis right now.

Who cares what he is afraid of? Remove the head(s) and get a look at the valves and the pistons. Probably need a few valves.

Is this the same mechanic who previously told you all the valves were bent? Why is he so anxious to replace the engine? Doesn't he know how to fix engines?
