S6 hardwire question (with lousy pictorial illustration).

I want to tap into a switched wire in the overhead light cluster. I thought I was tapping into a sunroof power source as shown in the attached photo but I get nothing. Can somebody give me an idea of a better source to use (shown in the picture)? I don't want to go from Homelink because its in the visor over my head and I can't easily get to the fuse panel because the headliner is entirely flush with the windshield and a-pillar.
Please, no laughing at the dumb guy.

Thanks. That is helpful but I was hoping to find a switched 12v source.
I'm attention deficit and I'll never remember to turn off the detector and, more importantly, I'll forget to turn it back on.

hardwired to map lights

Tap into Homelink...you can splice into the connectors tucked up into the headliner.....
It's also switched. Search here for info. https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec.html

Let's see if I can find the link in the FAQ...
I tried this myself on a friend's A4, and tapped the wrong wire! D'oh.
Try this one:

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/7437.phtml</a

Actually no-your thought about tapping into Homelink is not quite correct.
I installed an OEM auto-dimming compass mirror in my Avant, which had no previous wiring to support the mirror. I did my tap into the Homelink. Somewhere back, I have a detailed description how to do it, posted to this forum. But you use the smallest self-tapping wire clips you can find, and carefully attach them to the Homelink wires, after first removing the visor from the wiring harness.
The headliner is actually not flush with the leading edge of the windshield. I am not sure what you are trying to power up-but, there is an inner and outer channel in that metal beam that runs from the Homelink wiring access down along the windshield to the left of the moonroof housing. You have to snake 20 gauge wire rightward from the Homelink to the two snake-eye holes you can see forward, inside the moonroof housing. It's tricky to pull the wires through from the opposite side of those tiny holes, but workable-I did it within ten minutes. Doing this will get you live wires from the Homelink to the inside of your moonroof housing. If you are trying to connect a mirror or radar detector, this is both an easy and ideal route.

I went with this write-up. Quick and easy with 8500 hardwire kit.
