Sat in A8 and Phaeton while servicing my A6...
My lease is up next year and I was thinking of the Range Rover or A8 as my next car so I sat in one at the showroom. WOW! What a beautiful car. Interior was fantastic, exterior beautiful and huge backseat.
I then entered the VW showroom next door and sat in the Phaeton. DAMN! I felt like I was in a Rolls. Beautiful leather, wood everywhere, the entire interior oozed pure luxury. Exterior no big deal. Salesamn said if it didn't have the VW logo it would be selling like hotcakes. Said it failed miserably in Europe but that the American market was more open minded and not as focused on the prestige factor. (In my opinion, we in the good 'ol USA are as if not more into the "look what I got" attitude and so VW has a very tough nut to crack). But I have to tell you, the Phaeton is a damn nice car, and supposedly there are tons of lease incentives. Salesman said the Phaeton with a sticker of 72K will lease in the 800's. That is only a few more bucks than my lease! Hmmmmm.....

Re: If you were in the market I could tell you where you could
lease a brand new Phaeton, Silver/Anthracite base car with no cost options (18" included for no charge) for in the low $700/month payment range with only minimum drive offs.
The dealer is located in So. Cal.
You can get the a Phaeton that list in the $74K price range (basically loaded) for mid-$800/month.
You're right, the Phaeton is one heck of a car. But, it does have a few short comings like most cars but it is one heck of a value.

I would get the Phaeton before the A8 just to be...
different. I think it would be bad-*** to have an 80K VW. And you were right about the interior of the Phaeton-nicest one I have ever seen in any car.
